The UK's only folk-punk mandolin-playing anti-fascist celebrating 25 years of rabble-rousing, gotta be worth a few quid of anyone's hard-earned!. Copied directly from an email I received:
ATTILA THE STOCKBROKER
www.attilathestockbroker.comNEWS UPDATE JULY 2005
Hi everyone!
Firstly: as I sit here writing this I’m listening to the radio reports of what seems very much to be an Al Qaeda atrocity in London. Remember, these are the people who were armed and trained by the US when they were fighting ‘communism’ in Afghanistan, cheered on by everyone from UK and US governments, Sky and BBC News to The Guardian and some idiots on the ‘left’ as ‘freedom fighters’......... Bastards, trained by bastards. A huge curse on them all, and sympathy to all the injured and bereaved. If you want to read my thoughts on all this, look at ‘Attila’s views on the Iraq Crisis’ on my website.
Now on to happier things.
On Sunday Robina and I head off to Canada for my first tour there since 1994 - really looking forward to it. Dates below. It’ll be great to play Winnipeg and the Vancouver Folk Festival again and meet up with the unique Geoff Berner....
And then it’s officially 25 years of Attila! My first gig was on September 8th, 1980, at Bush Fair Playbarn in Harlow – and 25 years to the day, well over 2000 gigs in 19 countries later, we have a big celebration at the Komedia Theatre in Brighton, on Thursday September 8th 2005. I’m very happy to say that my great friends The Newtown Neurotics, my cultural companions through the 80s and one of the greatest political punk bands of all time, will be reforming specially for this gig, playing alongside some of the people whose music I have enjoyed most through the years: TV Smith (whom I first saw with his band The Adverts supporting The Damned at Kent University in 1977, I helped organise the gig!) the mighty Blyth Power and Swill Odgers from The Men They Couldn’t Hang. There will also, of course, be songs and poems from yours truly, solo and with my band Barnstormer. It’ll a big gig in a smallish venue (250 capacity) and if you want to come, advance booking is certainly recommended. Details and ticket booking (price £10) from the link immediately below: if you have any problems booking online you can do so by phone (01273 647100)
www.komedia.co.uk/event.php?id=81&dst=1126206001Before that, BBC Radio Four have recorded a half hour special programme entitled ‘Giving It Lip – Attila the Stockbroker 25 Years On’ which will be broadcast twice: on Sunday August 21 at 16.30 and on Saturday August 27th at 23.30. Live poems and songs old and new spanning all the years, interviews, reminiscences... details are at the bottom of this mail for those who want to look on the web for it. I did loads of work on it and hope you think it’s good!
And, of course, there are loads of gigs in the UK, Germany and Switzerland as part of my 25th Anniversary Tour, starting in September.
Have a good Summer everyone...stay safe, and if you’re in London today I hope you get home OK.
Cheers, Attila

One final thing:
Today, yet more innocent working class blood was spilled by the men of violence. The perpetrators of this violence sleep soundly in their beds while we pay the price for their powerlust. Fuck bin-Laden, fuck Bush, fuck Blair.
