Sick Kids Benefit Concert
Did You Know…
· One in every hundred (5%) children are born with a heart defect.
· More than half (1/2) of those children need surgery to survive.
· More of the half (1/2) of the children requiring surgery are under one year old and almost a quarter (1/4) are less than one month old.
Now consider for a moment that your heart is the size of your fist, no matter how old you are. Heart conditions can be congenital — present at birth — or acquired, meaning they developed over a short period of time. Some conditions develop during childhood and are temporary, such as those caused by infection, while others last a lifetime. Many heart conditions are chronic, that is, they last for a long period of time or even a lifetime. Others are acute — they happen suddenly, with severity, and are sometimes terminal.
The Cardiac Center at Sick Kids Hospital performs 600 operations, 1000 procedures in the Catheterization Lab and more than 10,000 diagnostic echocardiograms each year. In addition there are more than 8,000 ambulatory visits to the cardiac clinic. Sick Kids also performs 80% of all children’s heart transplants in Canada. However let us never forget that behind every statistic is a child, a family, and a life waiting to unfold.
We are holding a benefit concert on Saturday November 20th 2004 for Sick Kids Cardiology at the Fun Haus (526 Queen St. W.) This is the first time a punk/hardcore show has been put together to raise money for this cause. Headlining the show is Brass Knuckle Therapy with special guests Gutter Demons and Class Assassins. Asia Argento will also be joining us that night to DJ in between sets. Our Goal is to raise money for both patients and parents.
The fund that the proceeds will be going to is "The Mark Oberding Fund" which helps facilitate 3 separate charities within the hospital; Cardiac Patient Needs, The C.H.A.S.E Program and Cardiac Parent Amenities. These programs help to maintain a normal living pattern for the patients and parents while also helping to minimize the negative impact of their illness while in the hospital.
With your support we can make this event a huge success and support a great cause. Tickets are $12 and available at the door (Fun Haus).
